The duration of anal itching depends on the cause. If itch is due to a simple irritation of the skin, usually the problem disappears quickly once it identifies the source of irritation and is avoided. In most cases, simple treatment measures provide relief within a week and cure the problem completely in a month.

Prevention

In many cases, anal itching can prevent if you follow these recommendations:

- Maintain good hygiene anal: If possible, gently wipe the anal area after defecation and use wet toilet paper (no perfume or dye) or a damp cloth. Gently wipe or dry the area. Do not rub. If you are in a public restroom, use dry toilet paper at the moment and then finish your cleansing regimen when you return home.
- Use only water to clean the anal area, do not use soap.
- Do not use medicated powders, perfumed sprays or deodorants on the anal area.
- Follow a sensible diet containing a reduced amount of food and beverages that cause anal irritation.
- Wear cotton underwear that is not too tight.
- If you are taking oral antibiotics, eat yogurt to help restore the normal flora of the colon.
