The symptoms will be different depending on which question schizophrenia may occur slowly, over time, or suddenly, from one moment to another. They may also appear and disappear at times.

In general, the person with schizophrenia is behaving strangely, making others avoid it. Among the most common symptoms, you may notice that the affected person has one or more of the following behaviors:

- Fantasies and misconceptions, and that someone is spying on them or that they are famous or gods.

- Hallucinations. The most common is to hear imaginary voices that give commands or make comments to them, but they can smell aromas that do not exist, have rare flavors in the mouth and feeling sensations on the skin or anything but no one is playing.

- They do not show emotional reactions and express their feelings, such as laughing at a joke or anxious before some bad news, and have mood swings.

- They feel unmotivated and not interested in anything, can not plan or carry out their activities or make their own decisions, stop bathing and sanitized and isolated and avoid social situations.

- They have difficulty organizing (tidy up) what they will say, mix words or change from one topic to another without meaning. You can also write or talk much, but inconsistently.

- They have difficulty paying attention, concentrating and remembering things. Even forget or lose items constantly.

- They move slowly and repeat movements or gestures, such as walking in circles.

It is difficult to live with someone who suffers from this disease but know that can be treated and improved. If you know someone with schizophrenia, it is important that you help him or her and try to integrate it into daily activities.

If you think a relative or friend may be suffering from the disease or show symptoms of schizophrenia, then please let your concern and Encourage her to seek professional help as soon as possible. The ideal is to see a psychiatrist. Although no cure for schizophrenia, remind them that can be treated and that, with proper treatment, many people manage to maintain symptom control and improve their quality of life.

Some recent research suggests that both conditions could be linked: those with epilepsy have more chances of developing schizophrenia and vice versa. Another study also relates the so-called schizophrenia with bipolar disorder. Here we tell you more details on these findings and what are the most visible symptoms of schizophrenia.

Epilepsy and schizophrenia are two words long, it sounds weird and written with E. Both relate to various health problems that are related to the brain. And these are not the only traits that they share: a new study found that, apparently, people with an illness are more likely to suffer another.

In particular, researchers in Taiwan have found that people with epilepsy are nearly eight times more likely to develop schizophrenia than those without diabetes, while those who suffer from schizophrenia are six times more likely to have epilepsy.

To reach these results, which were published in Epilepsia, researchers analyzed data from nearly 5,200 patients with schizophrenia and more than 11,500 with epilepsy. According to experts, this dual relationship could be due to genetic causes, environmental and neurobiological.

Similarly, another study has found a possible link (association) between schizophrenia and genetic-called bipolar disorder or manic depressive illness. In this case, it is a research conducted by scientists from the School of Medicine, Mount Sinai, United States, which was published in the journal Nature Genetics, in which genetic regions identified eleven (six of which were not discovered before), they have to do with the risk for these mental illnesses. These data provide new insights into the causes of both diseases.

Epilepsy is a nervous system condition that causes brief changes, sudden and repeated in the electrical activity of the brain. These changes are called epileptic seizures or episodes, commonly called seizures, and temporarily affect the way a person behaves, moves, thinks or feels.

For example, during a seizure the person may lose consciousness and stop breathing while your muscles contract, or you can stay awake but with a sense of smells and sounds distorted and blurred vision. These are just some symptoms, which depend on the type of epilepsy the question.

Bipolar disorder, on the other hand, is a mental disorder characterized by sudden changes in mood, ranging from the most euphoric (manic), in which the person is very active but scattered and not so productive, even the most declined (depression).

Finally, schizophrenia is a type of psychosis that makes the person unable to distinguish what is real and what is imaginary and affects social behavior of the sufferer because it modifies the ability to think clearly, manage emotions, act coherently, make decisions, perceive reality and interact with the environment and with others.

Let them snuff the smoke is bad for your lungs – even those who do not smoke but breathe it in their environment – is well known and warnings are repeated continuously. If you were told it is also capable of damaging the hearing of adolescents, are you surprised? In this article we tell you what a group of researchers found out about this issue, so the next time someone lights a cigarette in your hand or next to your children ask you another reason to turn it off or leave to smoke other party.

Smoking is harmful to health, and you may have said or what you’ve heard ad nauseum. To warn the same packages of cigarettes!, Remembering that more and more programs and laws that encourage you to stop smoking.

Snuff is that not only makes them bad for the lungs, it also increases the chances of getting cancer in different parts of the body such as the mouth, nose, throat, esophagus, lungs, stomach, pancreas, kidneys, bladder, cervix, bone marrow and blood.

No harm no more active smokers, those who breathe secondhand smoke, considered passive smoking may also suffer from various health problems as cigarette smoke contains over 50 substances that can cause cancer. Can also cause respiratory tract infections and diseases in the heart.

When it comes to young children, breathing second-hand smoke increases the chances of experiencing the Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and is more likely to then have lung problems, ear infections and asthma. In addition, when a slightly larger share rooms with people who smoke tend to get sick more bronchitis, pneumonia (pneumonia) and cough.

All this is now added something more: the hearing, which until now did not seem affected by cigarette smoke. A recent study developed by researchers at NYU Langone Medical Center in New York, United States, found that exposure to secondhand smoke may affect the development of hearing (to hear) in children and increase the risk of hearing loss in adolescence.

In reaching this conclusion, the researchers analyzed data from more than 1,500 young people between 12 and 19 years of age-related health status and family medical history, exposure to secondhand smoke and its knowledge of whether they had a hearing problem or not.

Thus able to detect that adolescents who had been exposed to secondhand smoke had higher rates of hearing loss low and high frequency than other adolescents not exposed, although more than 80 percent did not know I had any problems with the ears.

In addition, for research, all participants had to take physical exams including testing blood cotinine (a byproduct of nicotine exposure) and hearing tests. According to blood tests and registered cotinine levels, the severity of hearing loss depended on the amount of exposure.

These findings, which appeared in the July issue of the journal Archives of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery-may be a reason enough to evaluate a possible hearing loss in children and adolescents exposed to secondhand smoke.

Unfortunately, despite how harmful smoking is, it is estimated that every day, about four thousand teenagers first try a cigarette. Of these, about a thousand become daily smokers. And you, do you think about it? If you are a smoker, this is the best time to quit. If you’re not, it is important to be aware of these risks and you feel confident, not only to say no if they ever offer you a cigarette, but also ask your colleagues or friends not to smoke with you, it is very harmful for everyone.

If you thought that by not smoking your heart is safe from the harmful effects of smoking, do not trust. And if you smoke and you think you do not hurt others with snuff, you would not believe! Cigarette smoke is as harmful to the non-smoker, and for those who do.

After working as a bartender (bartender) for several years, Juan Carlos came to me because continually suffering from irritated eyes and nose. Although he does not smoke, exposure to secondhand smoke daily smoking customers who visit the bar where she works seems to have begun to affect you.

For Louise, who works in an office where everyone smokes save it, the situation is quite complicated. For a couple of months has suffered from respiratory diseases and has been dedicated to ask your coworkers if you want to smoke, do so away from the office.

If you too must share space with people daily who smokes, I give more arguments to convince them that they do not, and to provide more ventilation in the place. It’s a fact: Cigarette smoke can cause symptoms in both active and passive smoking, such as respiratory disease, emphysema, lung cancer, asthma, erectile dysfunction, sudden death syndrome, infertility and pregnancy problems.

As if this were not enough, studies show that the heart is smoke and the smoke is harmful no matter where they come from. That is, both smokers and nonsmokers have the same risk for heart problems due to exposure to snuff.

This is not a minor detail bearing in mind that only in the United States, more than 80 million people suffer from some form of cardiovascular disease and about 2,400 people die every day because of this. In fact, coronary artery disease (the arteries of the heart), which is the most common type of cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in this country. It is also a fact that should not go unnoticed in Latin America and the Caribbean, where there are about 100 million smokers and more than 100,000 people die from smoking each year.

Over time, we have identified several factors that increase the chances that a person will develop heart disease. As mentioned above, among them is smoking, and not only for smokers but also those who breathe the smoke of snuff daily.

For example, a study conducted in 2006 by the U.S. Surgeon General (U.S. Surgeon General) found that the so-called passive smokers have a 25 and 30% more likely to develop heart disease than those not exposed to smoke snuff on a regular basis.

A report published in 1997 in Circulation: Journal of the American Heart Association states that exposure to environmental snuff at work or at home nearly doubles the risk of heart attacks in women.
Another more recent study, which was also published in Circulation: Journal of the American Heart Association, finds that even the effects of being exposed regularly to a short period of time (minutes to hours) smoke snuff are similar at 80% or 90% of those who have who do smoke.

Even a study that took into account data on more than one thousand Chinese women found that those who had been exposed to smoke snuff at least 15 minutes a day for 10 years, had 67% more likely to suffer from Peripheral Arterial Enfermerdad (when the blood vessels outside the heart become narrower).

Despite this evidence, even today it is estimated that between 25% and 40% of the U.S. population is passive smokers. Around 53.000 nonsmokers die each year because of secondhand smoke. Globally, the World Health Organization (WHO) indicates that 600,000 people worldwide die each year from breathing in the smoke of others.

If this is your case, try to talk to smokers around you to avoid this situation, whether at work talk to your employer to help you and try to place you near a window or in a ventilated area, if you visit Smoking at home ask them to smoke outside, likewise, when you leave restaurants or places to choose non-smoking, and if you visit friends who smoke is to place you in open or ventilated the house.

If you smoke, do not be selfish think your service as well kill you, kill the people around you. Respect the decision of those who choose not to smoke.

The Mayo Clinic sought more evidence regarding the second-hand smoke kills and that smoke-free laws at the workplace saves lives. Although the study was conducted in one county in the state of Minnesota, has global implications.

Research shows that since the ordinance went into effect to release smoke at the workplace, the incidence of heart attacks and sudden cardiac death fell by half between the residents of Olmsted County, Minnesota. Smoking among adults fell 23 percent during the same period, while rates of other risk factors like hypertension, high cholesterol, diabetes and obesity, remained stable or increased.

“This study adds to the observation that the laws for smoke-free workplace help to reduce the chance of suffering a heart attack, and this is the first time reported that these laws also reduce the possibility of a death sudden heart, “said Dr. Richard Hurt, director of the Center for Nicotine Dependence Mayo Clinic. “This study shows that everyone, especially people who know they suffer from coronary artery disease should avoid contact with secondhand smoke. These people should never be exposed to secondhand smoke because it is extremely dangerous for your health. “

Dr. Hurt played a vital role in the passage of the smoke free ordinance for the Olmsted County, Minnesota, and says that the evidence thrown up by this new study reinforce the efforts of the Global Smoke-Free Worksite Challenge (Challenge global release of smoke into the workplace), newly formed to advocate cooperation for control of snuff and presented for the first time in the event of the Clinton Global Initiative. The challenge will encourage other countries and employers to increase the number of employees who enjoy a smoke free environment for their work.

“We will use this information to help convince corporations and countries that this is the right way to protect the health of workers and citizens,” adds Dr. Hurt.

The study includes data from the Rochester Epidemiology Project, which consists of a project to have long-term medical records through collaboration between health care providers in Olmsted County. The project makes Mayo Clinic in one of the few places in the world where you can make retrospective population studies and enables Mayo Clinic researchers focus on the frequency of certain conditions.

“This study once again emphasizes the importance of controlling heart disease in communities, in order to understand how they could improve cardiovascular health,” said Dr. Veronique Roger, head of the Mayo Clinic Center for Science in the Provide Health Care, which runs the monitoring of cardiovascular disease through the Rochester Epidemiology Project.

The population study revealed that during the 18 months prior to the adoption in 2002 of the law to smoke-free restaurants in Olmsted County, the regional incidence of heart attacks was 212.3 cases per hundred thousand inhabitants . In the 18 months after the ordinance for total smoke release of 2007, in which restaurants and workplaces became smoke-free environments, the rate fell to 102.9 per hundred thousand inhabitants, which represents a decrease of about 45 percent. Moreover, during these two periods, the incidence of sudden cardiac death fell from 152.5 to 76.6 per hundred thousand inhabitants, representing a reduction of 50 percent.

“The results support the saving effect that the legislation for the release of smoke can have on community members to whom these laws apply,” says co-author, Dr. Jon Ebbert, director of the Center for Unit Mayo Clinic to Nicotine.

Other authors are Dr. May Ivana Croghan, Darrell Schroeder, Susan Weston and Sheila M. McNall.
The study was funded by a grant from ClearWay Minnesota, independent non-profit organization that improves the health of the people of Minnesota, reducing the consumption of snuff and exposure to secondhand smoke through research, taking action and collaboration.

The Smoke-Free Worksite Global Challenge is a collaboration between the American Cancer Society, the World Trade Coalition for Health, Johnson & Johnson, Mayo Clinic, Free Kids Campaign to Snuff and the Department of Health and Human Services States.

The IBS symptoms can be quite similar to the symptoms of Crohn’s disease. Sometimes IBS can also be misdiagnosed as colitis. However, IBS is not a dangerous disease and the IBS symptoms can be controlled by changing your diet and lifestyle. Some people may experience mild IBS symptoms while others may get severe symptoms. The worst symptoms can be rather scary because these can alter the quality of your life.

Medical experts are still figuring out why there are varying factors that can trigger the IBS symptoms. Fortunately, it has been found that there are several similar causes of IBS such as the wrong choice of food and stress. However, no specific food has been identified as being the definite cause of IBS. There are many types of foods to watch out for, such as dairy products, wheat, coffee, alcohol and sugar.

Stress can also trigger the IBS symptoms. It is believed that stress affects the immune system and a weakening immune system causes IBS. Hormonal changes can be another factor that triggers the symptoms of IBS. That is why many women tend to complain that their IBS symptoms often get worse during menstruation.

IBS symptoms can also be controlled with medication. Colpermin is usually used to treat IBS and it can effectively reduce the symptoms. Use it as prescribed and you can reduce the occurrence of IBS symptoms effectively.

First and foremost, rule out treatable causes of fatigue.

Although many treatments have been proposed pharmacological, dietary, herbal, etc., None of them has proved particularly effective. Miracle cures usually do not help. In some cases, antidepressants provide some help, especially in people with a background of depression, but can not be recommended for widespread use.

Similarly, your doctor may refer you to a rehabilitation center or program as cognitive behavioral therapy helps fight the symptoms of the disease, both physical and psychological.

Moreover, the doctor may prescribe a treatment for the symptoms more noticeable, such as headaches or muscle aches. What can the patient do?

The patient can do much to achieve recovery. The rest, though the temptation is more reasonable, is only partly useful in the early weeks, but not long term, so it is very important to schedule periods of activity as part of rehabilitation. Such activity should be gradually increased.

To cope with the chronic fatigue syndrome have to strike a balance between activity and rest, both programming periods, which ultimately end up helping to achieve a marked improvement.

Sometimes you have to resort to changes in work, as reduced working hours, changes in the workplace, and even changes in work activity.

Also important are a series of changes in habits, such as scheduling recreational activities outside the home, not smoking, drinking plenty of nonalcoholic fluids, sharing experiences with support groups, reduce alcohol and coffee, etc..

The main symptom is fatigue, abnormal tiredness, physical and psychical, which worsens with activity and reduces exercise capacity (physical and mental). There are many other possible symptoms, the most common: muscle aches, decreased concentration, sleep disturbances (eg insomnia, even though fatigue), headaches, emotional changes (such as frustration, anxiety, etc.), fever (fever lasting), changes in weight and appetite.

How is it diagnosed?

To establish the diagnosis requires that the fatigue is severe (interfering with normal activity) and prolonged in time (some authors speak of at least 6 months). Many illnesses can cause similar symptoms, so the physician should rule through questioning and physical examination. In addition, it will take blood and urine analysis to rule out infection elementary, metabolic disorders, hormonal or immune, anemia and tumors. This is important because most of them have a specific treatment that achieves quick relief.

There is evidence that sophisticated and comprehensive examinations, and consultations with specialists not improve the diagnosis and course of the disease, but should not be spared in case of suspicion of a different process.

It is a set of symptoms among which fatigue, a feeling of tiredness or exhaustion that is not relieved by rest, cause unknown, and can even cause disability.

Although it is also called myalgic encephalomyelitis, the use of this term is very committed, as it means inflammation of the brain has not been established.

It is not a new disease, because for more than a century, spoke of neurasthenia, a disease that shares many characteristics with chronic fatigue.

This is a relatively common disease in its milder forms, they may affect up to 25% of the population, while severe forms may cause disability barely 1%. Seems to have a special presence in middle-class people, 30 to 50 years, and primarily female. How does it produced?

The cause is not known, although they have identified a number of factors or diseases that appear to contribute to the development of the syndrome. Among the factors most commonly cited are: depression, anxiety, stress, problems of an allergic/immune rheumatic diseases, infections such as mononucleosis or human herpesvirus 6, severe anemia, metabolic and hormonal disorders (diabetes, hypothyroidism) and drugs (anxiolytics, antidepressants, antihypertensives).

Seems to be some genetic susceptibility, so that people who have previously experienced depression are at increased risk for osteoporosis. In many cases, symptoms begin after an acute flu symptoms, but numerous studies have been unable to detect an infectious cause, although it seems that this could trigger the disease.

Over time there is a gradual improvement, so that after 2 years from the beginning, the vast majority of cases experienced complete recovery without specific treatment, and only a few cases end up developing chronic disability.
