<p>WASH researchers analyzed the level of salt content in 260 food products available worldwide KFC, McDonalds, Kellogg&#8217;s, Nestle, Burger King and Subway. None of these products contained the same amount of salt in the world and the differences from one country to another were sometimes enormous.</p>
<p>Among many examples:</p>
<p>Kellogg&#8217;s All Bran contain 2.15g of salt per 100g 0.65g only in Canada but the United States. In the UK, they contain 1.13g.</p>
<p>In terms of Kellogg&#8217;s Cornflakes, the Middle East receives the product as salty or 2.8g per 100g. Spain is entitled to less salt with 1.75g.</p>
<p>A double cheeseburger with bacon Burger King bought in Brazil contains 3.2g salt 2.1g cons in the United Kingdom. Subway Club sandwich contains 3.7g of salt in the UK and Finland 2.0g.</p>
<p>&#8220;Eating too much salt raises blood pressure, a major risk factor for diseases cardiovasuclaires,&#8221; said Graham MacGregor, chairman of WASH. &#8220;It brings millions of people to suffer and die needlessly from heart attacks, heart failure and stroke. Reduce salt a few grams per day, significantly reduces the risk.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;The food manufacturers must absolutely reduce the amount of salt added to foods around the world,&#8221; said Katharine Jenner, co-ordinator at WASH and nutritionist. &#8220;If Kellogg Cornflake can provide a low salt level in Spain, why consumers in the world, can they not have them too? Reduce consumption of salt in the world literally save millions of lives, but major global brands still seem reluctant to provide the healthiest products to everybody. &#8221;</p>
<p>It is of paramount importance that the products made available by industry contain reasonable amounts of salt because the largest proportion of consumption comes from them (80% of Canadians according to Statistics Canada, for example).</p>
<p>While consumption in France would be 8g to 12g per day, WHO (World Health Organization) recommends reducing it to less than 5g per day. According to the AFSSA (French Agency for Food Safety), 4g are sufficient to meet the daily needs of an adult. The Academy of Medicine estimated that these needs do not exceed 3g per day.</p>
<p>Salt is an acquired taste. About 3 weeks would be needed when we decrease consumption, to get used to the taste of natural foods. </p>

This time I write in this thematic line, referring to one study that has identified two foods that may be useful to prevent the occurrence of CHD.</p>
<p>The American University of Loma Linda has undertaken a study published in the Americal Journal of Clinical Nutrition which stresses the importance of <strong>nuts and fish</strong> with high levels of omega 3 for the prevention of <strong>cardiovascular disease</strong>.</p>
<p>First, <strong>the nuts </strong>can reduce cardiovascular risk through the reduction of bad cholesterol (LDL) by 9.3% and serum total blood cholesterol by 5.4%. Only the intake of 42 grams of nuts a day is enough to keep cholesterol within range.</p>
<p><span id="more-166"></span></p>
<p>Moreover, researchers have also identified the<strong> blue fish </strong>with reduced cardiovascular risk. The weekly intake of only two<strong> blue fish </strong>dishes served to increase good cholesterol (HDL) by 4% and reduce bad cholesterol. Most importantly, however, its reduction of triglycerides, a 11.4% drop in the quantities specified intake.</p>
<p>These two foods, besides being delicious (nuts, in particular, are an irresistible vice) are healthy, and it costs nothing to include them in your weekly <strong><a href="http://www.cmorane.com/tag/diet">diet</a></strong>. You know the numbers, now get to work.</p>
