Can you have a cardiac arrhythmia without suffering from heart disease or circulation?

Most people have felt your heart beat very fast, pounding in the chest, or noticed that your heart skips a beat. Almost all also experienced dizziness, lightheadedness, shortness of breath, or chest pain at some point. While these experiences of heart arrhythmias (a change in the steady beat of the heart) can create anxiety for most people is harmless.

As adults age, they are more likely to have arrhythmias. Only very few people have arrhythmias that are dangerous. Do not be surprised if you have a few palpitations or your heart races occasionally. If you have questions about your heart rhythm or symptoms, talk to your doctor.

Is it safe to take aspirin daily to prevent heart disease?

If you have had a heart attack, aspirin can help reduce the risk of having another. It also helps to keep arteries open in those who have undergone heart revascularization (heart bypass) or other artery-opening procedure such as coronary angioplasty. But, because of its risks, the Food and Drug Administration has not approved aspirin to prevent heart attacks in healthy people. It could even be harmful for some people, especially those without the risk of heart disease. Check with your doctor about whether taking aspirin is right for you. Be sure not to confuse with other common aspirin to relieve pain, such as acetaminophen (Tylenol), ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) or naproxen sodium (Aleve.)

Heartbeats “extra”, also called palpitations, or premature ventricular contractions (PVCs) occur when there is irritation at the bottom of the pumping chambers of the heart. PVCs interrupt the normal heart rate and cause irregular heartbeats that may feel like a “missed beat” or “flip-flop” on his chest. This may be harmless or it can result in serious problems.

If a woman experiences palpitations and other symptoms such as dizziness or shortness of breath, you should notify your physician immediately. The doctor will do a complete medical history and perform a physical exam and may order additional tests carried out to determine the cause of palpitations. Caffeinated products (coffee, candy bars), alcohol and stress can cause heart palpitations in some people. When a woman is in perimenopause (the period before menopause), changes in hormone levels can also cause palpitations harmless.

Approximately 25 percent of American women have cholesterol levels in the blood high enough to put them at risk for heart disease. Cholesterol is a waxy substance, found in all parts of the body. Create the cell membranes, some hormones and vitamin D.

Cholesterol comes from two sources: your body and your food. The liver produces all the cholesterol your body needs. Too much cholesterol from animal foods like meat, whole milk dairy products, egg yolk, poultry and fish can cause cholesterol to rise. However, the saturated fat contained in your diet is largely responsible for that raises cholesterol.

Cholesterol travels through the blood in packages called lipoproteins. The low density lipoprotein (LDL) and high density lipoprotein (HDL) are two types of lipoproteins. The LDL is often called the type of “bad” cholesterol because it can cause buildup and blockages occur in the arteries that carry blood to the heart. The LAD is known as the “good” cholesterol because it helps remove cholesterol from the blood, preventing buildup and blockage in the arteries. The more higher the cholesterol, the greater the risk of heart disease.

When women meet 20 years begin to raise their levels of blood cholesterol. From age 40, these surges and increases to 60 years. Being overweight and being physically inactive may also increase the level of bad cholesterol (LDL) and decrease the level of good cholesterol (LAD.) family history (genes) can also affect how the body makes and handles cholesterol. All women 20 and older need to be tested for blood cholesterol. High cholesterol in the blood is an important risk factor for heart disease that you can help to control with diet and exercise (which will increase HDL and decrease the LDL) and smoking cessation. In some cases, your doctor may prescribe medication to lower cholesterol.

How can I reduce the risk of heart disease and cardiovascular disease?

Regular physical activity can help reduce the risk of these diseases. Exercise helps women to remove excess weight, control blood pressure, reduce the need for a diabetic person insulin and increases the level of HDL “good.” Some studies show that being inactive increases the risk of heart disease. To reduce this risk:

- Stop smoking, talk to your doctor if you need help to quit smoking.
- Reduce consumption of foods high in saturated fat and cholesterol.
- Check the levels of blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar and keep them under control.
- Exercise at least 30 minutes a day most days of the week (or every day)
- Lose weight if overweight and maintain a healthy weight.

The diet and exercise, How much difference can have on the health of heart and cardiovascular system?

Eating a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol, and exercising regularly are good habits that all women should follow. These good habits will reduce pressure and maintain healthy blood sugar levels and cholesterol in the blood. Studies have shown that physical activity reduces the risk of heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes.

Women, like most Americans, are becoming more and more inactive. Approximately 60% of American women do not perform physical activity required to maintain health. The Secretary of Health recommends 30 minutes of moderate activity most days of the week, preferably all, to protect the heart and overall health. These activities include brisk walking, bicycling and gardening. You do not have to perform the activity for 30 minutes straight, it can be divided into shorter periods of at least 10 minutes each. Women who have had heart attacks might be concerned about exercising after recovery. Studies have shown that people who, after having had a heart attack in his life include regular physical activity, improve their chances of survival. If you have had a heart attack, talk to your doctor about developing an exercise plan.

What factors increase the likelihood of heart disease and cardiovascular disease?

Many factors may put women at risk for heart disease and cardiovascular disease. The more risk factors (or elements that increase the risk) a woman has, the greater the chance of developing heart disease or cardiovascular disease. There are some factors you can not control, such as age, family medical history and ethnicity.

But you can do something about the three main risk factors for heart disease and cardiovascular disease: smoking, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Quitting smoking will reduce the risk and you can get help to quit through support groups, special programs, behavior modification and medications. High blood pressure and high cholesterol in the blood can be controlled with diet, exercise and medication. Ask your doctor about developing a plan for heart health and cardiovascular disease.

Studies have shown that physical inactivity increases the risk of people suffering a heart or cardiovascular disease. People who are not active are twice as likely to develop heart disease and cardiovascular disease compared to those who are most active. Has been linked to overweight in women with coronary heart disease, stroke, congestive heart failure and death due to heart-related causes. The more overweight you are, the greater your risk of heart disease.

Diabetes, sometimes referred to as high levels of blood sugar, is a serious condition that increases women’s risk of heart disease and cardiovascular disease. Women with diabetes have an increased risk of heart disease and stroke than women without diabetes. Diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and obesity often go hand in hand and increase the risk of heart disease. In addition, we have found that diabetes doubles the risk of heart attack in women but not men.

Breathing smoke snuff for long periods of time, or all the time, may increase the risk of cardiovascular disease, but do not smoke. The low dose birth control pills today, carry a lower risk of heart disease and stroke, which led above the high-dose pills. But this is not the case for women who smoke or have high blood pressure.

There are many types of heart disease and cardiovascular disease, and the following is a description of the most common. The National Clearinghouse on Women’s Health (NHLBI) has provided links to the start of this FAQ and also the end for additional information.

Atherosclerosis. Atherosclerosis is a type of arteriosclerosis (or thinning and hardening of the arteries.) As we age, may occur spontaneously certain hardening of the arteries. When a person has atherosclerosis, the inner walls of the arteries narrow further due to the accumulation of plaque. Plaque is the result of fat deposits, cholesterol and other substances. Blood clots that block blood flow, this can cause heart attacks and strokes. The high blood cholesterol, smoking, high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity and being physically active, you are placed in a higher risk of atherosclerosis.

Coronary heart disease (or coronary artery disease.) Coronary heart disease, the most common form of heart disease, affects the blood vessels (coronary arteries or the heart). It causes angina (chest pain) and heart attacks. Women over 40 are at higher risk for this disease because the heart-related problems tend to increase with age. And black women are more likely to die from heart disease than white women. The good news is that you can do something about preventing this disease. High blood pressure and high cholesterol, smoking, obesity and being physically active, you are placed in a higher risk of coronary heart disease.

Angina pectoris. Pain or discomfort in the chest that occurs when a part of the heart does not receive enough blood. Feeling of pressure or pain, as if something tight, often in the chest under the breastbone, but sometimes also occurs in the shoulders, arms, neck, jaw or back. The most common factor that causes angina is physical exertion. Other factors include emotional stress, cold or excessive heat, alcohol and smoking. Angina seldom cause permanent damage to the heart, as does a heart attack. A heart attack occurs when blood flow to part of the heart is stopped suddenly and permanently.

Stroke. The lack of blood flow to the brain caused by a blood clot or bleeding in the brain due to rupture of blood vessels is what causes a stroke. Without a good blood supply, brain cells can not get enough oxygen and begin to die. You can also have what is sometimes called “low-amplitude stroke” or transient ischemic attack (TIA), in which the brain is not damaged. But even if these attacks do not damage the brain, TIAs are serious and may put you at greater risk for stroke total. No control hypertension, smoking and diabetes increase the risk of stroke.

High blood pressure (or hypertension.) There are ways to measure blood pressure and medications to treat hypertension (decrease this pressure.) The blood pressure reading measures the force of blood pumped from the heart, against the vessel walls blood. Blood pressure reading using two numbers: a higher number, systolic pressure, or pressure of blood in the vessels while the heart beats, and a lower number, diastolic pressure, or blood pressure between each heart beat (when the heart is at rest.) Although the average reading of blood pressure for adults is 120/80, a slightly higher or lower reading (in either number) may not be a problem. A diagnosis of hypertension when the reading consistently exceeds 140/90. It is often called killer “silent” because there are usually no signs or symptoms. High blood pressure can cause heart failure in women, and can also cause stroke, kidney failure and other health problems. More than half of all women over 55 suffer from this serious illness. It is more common and more severe in African American women. Talk to your doctor and ask for blood pressure measured regularly. If you have high blood pressure, diet, exercise and medication can help lower and control blood pressure.

Heart failure. Heart failure means the heart can not pump blood to the body as well as it should. NOT mean that literally stops the heart. Heart failure develops slowly, and can have a major impact on the life of the person and their ability to perform daily activities such as dressing, bathing and getting around.

Congestive heart failure is a term often used to describe heart failure. But congestion or fluid buildup, it is only a symptom of heart failure and not all people suffering with heart failure. There are two main categories of heart failure, systolic and diastolic, and within each category, symptoms may be different from person to person. Systolic heart failure occurs when the heart’s ability decreases to pump blood. The heart can not send enough blood to the circulatory system, which causes blood to the heart from the lungs back and leaking fluid in the lungs (called pulmonary congestion.) Diastolic heart failure occurs when the heart has difficulty relaxing or rest. The heart muscle becomes stiff and can not fill with blood, which causes fluid to accumulate (more often in the feet, ankles and legs) and pulmonary congestion occurs. Consult your doctor immediately if any of the symptoms of heart failure. There are medications to treat heart failure. Eating a healthy diet and regular exercise can reduce the risk of heart failure.

Yes Many women think heart disease is a man’s problem, however, these diseases seriously affect women. Did you know that heart disease is the leading cause of death for both women and men in the United States? And that stroke is the third leading cause of death among U.S. women (cancer is number two)?

Heart disease affects women of all ethnic groups and women suffering from other diseases such as diabetes. African American women are more likely to die from heart disease than white women. Age is also a risk factor in heart disease and those 65 and older are the fastest growing group in the United States. Heart disease is becoming a growing problem for women.

The number of women who die from cardiovascular disease, is almost twice in relation to all forms of cancer combined. Men suffer heart attacks and strokes more often than women. But the death rate of women with cardiovascular disease is higher. As women age, especially after menopause, they are at increased risk for cardiovascular disease. It is believed that lower levels of estrogen during and after menopause increase the risk.

Early menopause, natural or surgical, can double the risk of women developing coronary heart disease (see next question for definition.) Young women are also at risk of cardiovascular disease if they smoke or have high blood pressure, diabetes , high cholesterol and family history of cardiovascular disease at early ages. Women with congenital heart disease (born with a dysfunction of the heart) have a higher risk of having a baby with a dysfunction in the heart.

Heart disease refers only to the diseases of the heart and blood vessel system of the heart.

Cardiovascular disease refers to heart disease and diseases of the blood vessel system (arteries, capillaries, veins) around the body, such as the brain, legs and lungs. “Cardio” means heart and “vascular” system of blood vessels.

The heart is a strong muscle that acts as a pump and is a little bigger than your fist. It pumps blood continuously through the circulatory system, which is the network of elastic tubes that allow blood to flow throughout the body. The circulatory system consists of two main organs, the heart and lungs and blood vessels (arteries, capillaries and veins.) Arteries and capillaries carry blood rich in oxygen and nutrients, the heart and lungs to all parts the body. Veins return blood low in oxygen and nutrients to the heart and lungs. The problems of the heart and blood vessels do not happen quickly.

Over time, arteries that carry blood to the heart and brain can become blocked due to accumulation of cells, fat and cholesterol (placa.) The decrease in blood flow to the heart due to blockage of the arteries causing heart attacks . The lack of blood flow to the brain caused by a blood clot or bleeding in the brain due to rupture of blood vessels is what causes a stroke.

We know that several diseases can be prevented (or at least reduce the risk of development) through food. This time I write in this thematic line, referring to one study that has identified two foods that may be useful to prevent the occurrence of CHD.

The American University of Loma Linda has undertaken a study published in the Americal Journal of Clinical Nutrition which stresses the importance of nuts and fish with high levels of omega 3 for the prevention of cardiovascular disease.

First, the nuts can reduce cardiovascular risk through the reduction of bad cholesterol (LDL) by 9.3% and serum total blood cholesterol by 5.4%. Only the intake of 42 grams of nuts a day is enough to keep cholesterol within range.

Moreover, researchers have also identified the blue fish with reduced cardiovascular risk. The weekly intake of only two blue fish dishes served to increase good cholesterol (HDL) by 4% and reduce bad cholesterol. Most importantly, however, its reduction of triglycerides, a 11.4% drop in the quantities specified intake.

These two foods, besides being delicious (nuts, in particular, are an irresistible vice) are healthy, and it costs nothing to include them in your weekly diet. You know the numbers, now get to work.

Children are no strangers to high cholesterol, is not about adults only. Children are also susceptible to cardiovascular disease.

Pediatricians in the world are amazed at the increase in children with high cholesterol, victims of a goods-laden junk food and sedentary lifestyle, and a family history of cardiovascular disease.

Regardless of age, children can have high levels of total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol (over 130 mg / dl).

More important than thinking about what medications need to give a child to lower your cholesterol, what is really needed is to modify your lifestyle and improve their nutrition. After 5 years, children should not eat too much fat, but before that age need to train your neurological system, one must be good.

Encourage your child to go outdoors with other children and sports. But above all, leads by example and take yourself a healthy lifestyle.

What will happen to the health of your child when adult if the child is sick? Think the next time your little one asks you some of the junk food.
