As with any care jobs you need to pass a criminal background and health check. With the exception of shared foster care, the child will reside in your home or apartment that has a separate bedroom. Children that come to you in this type of care jobs situation are in need of short term emergency care, remand foster care while they await a family court decision, and long term foster care that lasts from a few months to a years.

Children in long term foster care who can’t be returned to their families are eventually placed for adoption. Shared foster care has the care provider going to the child’s home and assisting in their home care, usually when the child is chronically ill or disabled and the care giver is providing relief to the birth parents.
