The Diagnosis of Conjunctivitis
How does the doctor make the diagnosis?
Normally, the doctor can diagnose and treat conjunctivitis. The doctor will diagnose the illness based on an eye exam and history is provided.
Sometimes it is necessary sampling for culture. In some severe cases or not respond to treatment may be necessary to go to an eye specialist (ophthalmologist).
What we must pay particular attention?
If a worsening of symptoms despite treatment, or if the vision deteriorates, you should re-consult the doctor, even if you are treating.
What can be done to avoid conjunctivitis?
It is important to good hand hygiene and face. They should not share face towels, especially if someone has conjunctivitis.
Conjunctivitis can spread from one eye to another, especially if you rub your eyes.
It should remove the pus and scabs bathing the eye with warm salt water, which can also relieve symptoms. Use disposable tissues when you dry your eyes and throw them away after use. This will limit pollution.
Eye drops should be discarded after completion of antibiotic treatment, remember that once opened have a duration of 10 days.
How often progresses conjunctivitis?
Although not dealt with, most forms of conjunctivitis alone will improve gradually in weeks. With proper treatment, they usually notice an improvement in the eyes in a few days, although cases of adenoviral infection may cause problems for weeks.
